Blogging Project

In the ECDC there were multiple different groups of children to help. When you go into the classroom everyone asks for your help, you are not actually assigned to any group like you would think so if you are an online buddy like I was.

I was the online buddy. My group I was assigned to was the Salamander group, their blog and voicethread. I did not help out that much with this one because I was unsure what exactly I was suppose to do at the time. At first when I began I started out by adding all of the links to the children's blogs in the site that Dr. Elwood set up for us in the beginning. If you access the site with every one's information on who is to help out with what project then you can click on the group number and access their personal blog about their animal. I went into the classroom the last week and helped the Ant group with their voice thread and got that going.

Week of April 13th-17th

This week was very productive for the students. They have already gathered all of their information on their animals, my group was doing salamanders, and they were ready to go into the next step. This week's goal was to make the voice thread and finish up the projects. The slide share and Danielle's voice was recorded on the voice thread. It looks very nice but we wanted to add the children's voices to the slide share also.

I visited the class on friday morning to help the other groups that had not finished their projects do so. I mainly worked with the Ant group to help then make a voice thread. By the time that I left there were just two groups left that had not finished their voice threads.

All in all I think this was a fun and interesting project for both the students and the EC students. It was nice to actually go into the classroom and meet with the children face to face to help with the projects. I thought it was difficult to keep up with everything just being the online person, but those that were in the group with me did an excellent job at keeping me informed. I think all of the students projects came out well, the blogs looked great! Now the projects are done and everyone has just a little more experience in teaching children about technology.

Week of April 6th-10th

Starting out on this ECDC project was tough. At the beginning I didn't understand exactly what I was suppose to be. It was not until I went into class and talked with Dr. Elwood about what we were all doing. After coming to an understanding of what I was suppose to do I got in contact with my other group members. I am the Internet buddy, so at times it can be difficult to stay in contact but my other buddies seem to be on top of it.

This week I learned the log on information to access what my students are doing in the class and I started to check it out. I still need to look into a little more of what everyone has been doing. I know how to get a hold of my group and I appreciate how understanding they have been over this whole process.

This coming week we are working on our voice threads. We will be working on getting those into the blogs and I am here to help any and all that need the help.

Internet Resources

How can you envision using a variety of Internet resources in your unit plan?

My technology resource

There are many different ways you can use technologies in the classroom. I have discovered many new ways I can use technologies in my class. Many of the technologies I have learned would work well for group projects or peer review. Not only can some of the technologies help the students be better connected with each other but they can get feedback in multiple different ways depending on the type of technology they decide to use.

Reflective Blog Post

My Spreadsheet

Using spreadsheets can be useful. I think that it is important for everyone to learn the technologies at some point in time because once you start actually using something you can quickly learn cool and helpful things about it that can not only make thinks look nicer but also make the technology more fun to use and make your job a lot easier. I know that in the beginning things seem much harder then they really are, you just have to step back for a second and read about what your doing then things come a lot easier then before.

For a classroom of my own I could do some type of project that the children would have to do a little research on what they can buy. I think it would be a fun activity that could help the students learn how to use technologies and use their imaginations. I think to start out the project i would ask the students:
How would you want your dream bedroom to look?
From this the students can start imagining what they would do if they could do anything to their bedroom. It shows the students creativity and personality. Not only will they have to think about what they would do but they would have to research how much things cost. This could be a great math lesson dealing with money and how prices of things add up. It would also be a great time to talk about taxes and it effects things. Next I would ask:
How would you create a spreadsheet to keep track of your spending?
In doing this the students would become better acquainted with excel, or another program similar to it, and expand their knowledge of how to use different technologies. Finally would ask them to find all the things, the carpet, the wall paper, and all the accessories they would want in their room and research the prices. In doing this they will learn the price of money in the world.

Reflection on Slide Cast

My Slide Cast

When I first found out about this technology i thought, this is pretty cool. I really was interesting but I was kind of confused about what all I had to do. t took me a long time to figure out just what I needed to do but I eventually understood. I still do think that digital storytelling can be and is useful, it was just a little harder for me to grasp how to do it.
With this technology, if used properly, there can be so many things done. You can present a presentation but just clicking on your link or have something for the sub to show the class when you are not there. I think it is awesome that you can communicate with someone half way around the world just the same as you can with the person that lives next door to you.
With the different forms of creating a presentation there are so many ways to leave comments and show the other person what you are really talk about. It is almost like having a conversation but it is guided to what you need to be talking about.

I personally had a hard time with this project because I am electronically challenged. Anything that can go wrong will. I have come to terms with that but it still makes me frustrated. In my presentation I did a quick lesson on letters and language arts. It showed that it is easy and important to include writing in every subject and you can connect everything into a theme if you want to.
In the future I think I would like to get to know this technology better and maybe use it in my classroom. It can be a lot of fun for the student and a little bit different from the things that they normally do. I think it would also be useful for when I am not there to teach a class but the students wouldn't be loosing just another day with a sub that can only give them busy work.
I can however see a few problems with this in my future classroom. We assume that everyone has a computer and will be able to easily access it. Although this is very true that many people will there is no way we can be sure everyone can get to it for free. There are always problems with technology and things are always changing and that can become a little more confusing as time goes on.
I think all in all these are some great forms of technology. I think it can be fun and I will be using it at some point with my students. It is very exciting to be hopeful and positive and the new coming of everything.

Classroom Blogging

2¢ Worth

This is a blog, created by David Warlick, that is all about teachers teaching technology in their classrooms. Not only is it David blogging but teachers respond to what he says and put in their thoughts. I thought it was very interesting how he started talking about his life and related it to technology and the importance. There is also some facts and otehr links where one might further expand on their learning of these technologies. This site has brought to my attention how useful blogging can be in a classroom and taught me a lot about what blogging really is. I use to think that it was just people putting their feelings or venting to the world but there is other deeper meaning that can apply to others. The fact that there are useful links in the blog has made me realize how easy sharing informationw ould be this way.

Using the new technologies in the classroom will make some of the students more involved. It is not as traditional to have a classroom blog but it is a great way to get the students involved with each others work. Not only will some students learn how to use new technology but they will put it into practice and the students that already know how this technology works will have more fun with it. It is always nice to see what other people come up with and the students will be able to be creative and express themselves while also doing the work at hand. I think it is important for students to not only reflect on their own work but also on the work of their classmates . It is a constructive and relationship building activity.
